Community Health Programs Inc. (CHP) currently serves more than 24,000 patients annually for the area of “South County” Massachusetts, which encompasses 16 towns. The CHP Health Center is a comprehensive medical practice. It is a Federally Qualified Health Center, and is the only primary care provider in Berkshire County that is accessible to all people regardless of insurance status, immigrant status, or ability to pay. They provide preventive, acute and ongoing medical care for infants, children, adults and elders.
DAI was engaged by CHP for this adaptive re-use project where we are transforming a kennel into their new Health Center. The building is conveniently located on a major roadway leading to the town center of Great Barrington. The existing one-story, wood frame structure is a 4,800 square feet with an additional 2,100 square feet of open area under the roof. The sustainable design strategies call for renovating the interior and enclosing the open area. The program includes 10 adult exam rooms, 3 pediatrics exam rooms, 1 procedure room, and clinical support functions such as a lab, blood draw station, utility rooms, public waiting area an administrative offices. This project will support other CHP core programs. There will also be consultation rooms for the Community Health Access Program.
Community Health Programs also asked our firm to design a 3,000 square foot addition to house 4 private offices, 4 shared offices, a conference room, and a multi-purpose room for CHP’s administration.
DAI assisted also CHP to apply for stimulus related grants in the Facility Investment Program (FIP).
