UMass Memorial – HealthAlliance Hospital made a strategic decision to consolidate all acute care services at the Leominster Campus and DAI was engaged to develop and implement their multi-site Master Facility Plan, having served both hospitals since the 1980s. The resultant program for the Leominster campus included a new 104,000 square foot addition, 30,000 square feet of renovations to the existing facility and a new adjacent parking deck. Surgery, patient beds, and the Emergency Department were the focus.
The keys to the project’s success, with its many challenges and innovations from the design phase to completion of construction, was our dedication to advanced planning, flexibility, and close communication with the hospital, its neighbors, the contractor, and community agencies. This award-winning project was completed in 2001.
As most healthcare providers know, their strategic and master planning direction and goals need to be revisited at key intervals to assess delivery systems and integration of new models of care, as appropriate.
We partnered once again with HealthAlliance to develop an updated Leominster Campus Master Plan in 2007 that will adapt current volumes and healthcare delivery systems over the next five to ten years. This master plan update examined campus growth opportunities for services as identified with HA’s strategic planning and senior management team. The master plan further identified, based on HA’s identified priorities, an implementation strategy categorized by immediate, moderate and long range future phases. HA is currently working with DAI on the design and implementation of the “immediate phase”. This phase includes the expansion of the Emergency Department and elevated parking.
