Winchester Hospital and Winchester Physicians Associates decided to undertake this project to provide additional space needed for two physicians groups as well as consolidate the two practices in a central location to improve access and increase resources for their patient population.

The project consists of the renovation of an existing two-story general office building. Exterior wall repair, a new entrance and canopy are also included. The first floor houses Internal Medical and Family Medical Practices. Each distinct area has nine offices for physicians and mid-level providers and eighteen examination rooms which include one minor procedure room per practice. The second floor consists of shared support services and administration. The basement is planned to house future conference space. The Internal Practice area is designed using the pod model to provide patients with added privacy and the feel of a private doctor’s suite.

The infrastructure design of the project complies with the Mass Energy Efficiency Regulations. Although not targeting LEED certification, sustainable design elements such as the reuse of recycled materials from the existing facility, selection of low V.O.C finishes, lighting controls and energy efficient light fixtures were incorporated into this renovation.
